VW's Wundercar II
Germany's Auto.T-Online just broke the news. VW's engineers are at it again. Not content with the super-efficient, if not entirely practical 1 Liter "Wundercar", they have now come up with something so sexy and yet economical that it's bound to win even the most skeptical anti-environmentalists heart. It's called the VW 2 Liter, which means it sips just 2 liters of fuel every 100 kilometers. That's about 117.53 miles per gallon in US terms.
The online publication reports the car weighs in at 700 kilograms or about 1535 pounds and with its proposed stock 61 hp, 1.2 liter, turbocharged diesel engine it'll do a respectable 180 kilometers per hour with acceleration from 0 to 100 kph of about 12 second. Substitute the 86 hp, 1.4 liter FSI engine found in the Polo and the car should do 0 to 100 in 10 seconds and have a maximum speed of 200 km/hr.
Auto T-Online speculates that the car could be available in two years for about 20,000 Euros. For more information -- auf Deutsch -- visit the Auto.T-Online website.
