what things do you consider when you buy a new vehicle?
1.the ability to judge well.
"an astonishing lack of discernment"
With ALL the new cars how can you determine what one best fits your needs. One of the top concerns is how much does it cost up front. This is the real decision before the other things to consider. In fact this is why a lease looks so good. You don't have to worry about getting a loan or a big down payment. It also lets you know that at the end of the lease you don't have to try and sell it and go through all of those issues.
Next most people need to determine how many people it will have to carry, if you do any work with it and need to load things in it. Also does you pull a trailer or even a bicycle rack?
Will you get a real big vehicle with 3rd row seating? There are so many things to consider.
Some even look to see how the repair record and accident crash studies are on each vehicle. But most thing they are all similar so they don't both with safety or repairs. If it has a warranty they figure they will be ok no matter what happens.
One of the last and often over looked choices is how much pollution does it make. They just figure everyone else is making the same pollution and they don't see it so what's the big deal. When they look at gas prices they see they are lower now that back 5 or 10 years ago so they don't worry about any price increases in the years they will own the car.
So it's easy to ignore the life cycle cost of any vehicles. BIG SUV and TRUCKS are selling at a record pace again. The total number of miles is setting records for 2017. Will anything change in the future? It's a wild guess so maybe yes and maybe no. Will climate change end our lives as we know it? Not in most peoples lifetime so why would they worry. That's something for their kids to worry about. They have enough to deal with.
