Toyota Hybrid Sales Top Half Million Worldwide

By the end of October, the largest Japanese automaker said, its worldwide hybrid vehicle sales totaled about 513,000 units.

NAGOYA -- Toyota Motor Corp said Friday its global cumulative sales of gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle topped 500,000 units since its first such vehicle was launched in 1997.

By the end of October, the largest Japanese automaker said, its worldwide hybrid vehicle sales totaled about 513,000 units. Toyota introduced the Prius as the world's first hybrid vehicle for mass production in Japan in 1997 and put it on sale in foreign countries in 2000.
