Hydrogen Fuel Cell Buses Deployed In Berlin
tyle="LINE-HEIGHT: 115%">The Berlin Transport Authority will start to use the environmental friendly and hydrogen using buses in its local public transport network. According to the project supported by European Union (EU) funds, 14 hydrogen buses will be in use in Berlin by 2009.
Hydrogen bus models were developed following the hybrid cars that were widely studied for their green and renewable energy source and because of the increase in fossil-fuel prices in recent years.
German Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel also joined the public announcement of the two hydrogen buses produced by MAN Company in Berlin.
Andreas Sturmowski, chairman of the Management Board of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) introduced the buses in front of the famous Brandenburg Gate and said the buses are supported by EU funds within HyFleet: Cute project, adding that when the14 hydrogen buses begin operating by the end of 2009, they will be the biggest fleet of hydrogen buses in the world.
