Israeli Environment Ministry Studying Hybrid Car EM Radiation

Source: Jerusalem Post/Israel
Class: SYNDICATED NEWS

SYNOPSIS: Gov't wants more data on exposure risks before committing to purchase vehicles.

The Environmental Protection Ministry confirmed to The Jerusalem Post this week that it has launched an independent study of exposure to electromagnetic radiation from hybrid car batteries.

There have been concerns raised both here and abroad that the batteries might generate worrying amounts of electromagnetic radiation over long periods of time. Manufacturers of hybrids have said that the cars and their batteries comply completely with all standards and regulations and pose no threat to the vehicles' occupants.

In Israel, the issue arose because the police wanted to purchase hybrids as patrol cars to save on gas costs. However, the ministry advised them not to because police officers spend many more hours sitting in their cars than average drivers, Ma'ariv reported recently. There was some concern about radiation levels for drivers exposed for more than four hours a day. Since most hybrid owners spend far less than that in their car each day, the ministry did not feel a general warning was warranted, according to the Ma'ariv article.

Are they serious? Magnetic radiation health issues from lithium car batteries. Let's stop living.

All electronic devices and electric motors are sup posed to be tested for electromagnetic [essentiall y radio frequency and levels thereof] by the OEM. If wudn't be difficult to measure levels inside an electric vehicle and determine if exposure to such radiation is indeed harmful. This shud be done by the national-standards organization of the OEM's country or an established, world-respected agency like DOT/EPA/UL/CSA/DIN/etc...Most BEV cabins are sufficiently shielded by metal, grounded wiring shields, conduit, and traps/chokes/bypass capacito rs which block or absorb radiation fields..Zappp!.    Dear, Regarding the effect from the radiation from the battery that been used by the EV yes i believed that we as the swhould been teach by the goverment of each country's where thie EV are used. secondly, we can make the solution how to reduice the ray from the radiation if this EV really on the road and have had been on the road of every countrys.and what i've been thinking of EV on every road of every country not only those rich or well develop one but for all. thank you.

This is straight-up American Oil Megalopoly shill stuff to slow the advance of electric vehicles and maintain the oil consumption status quo. Israel gets it's geopolitical existence from the power of American money, and American money is all about oil use. Sure, the controller EM generation (from batteries?- come on!) should be studied (in situ), as it should with any electrical product, and proper shielding installed, as with any electrical product. It doesn't have to be 'announced' as a news story. THAT's the propaganda part. Follow the money trails around this story. Anytime you see the words "Israel" and "Minister", you can bet there is oil or weapons money involved. P.S. And all of the previous comments apply, too.

Grerat they are concerned about the health of their police forse. I'm sure they don't let them breath carbon monoxide exhaust while they idle for hours ? They make sure thyey eat healthy food ? They don't let them smoke in their cars or drink hot coffee trhat can spill and burn ? They don't have tanks full of highly explosive fuel that can explode and catch fire in an accident ? I hope they get serious and cover all these safety concerns. As to the EMF I have measured it and it's extremely low and comec from the AC motors. I have a gause meter and use the swedish TOC standards of les than 2 miligaus for long periods. It's no problem and I can show you. Just don't park under or near high power transmission lines since I have read over 100 mili-gaus there.

This just shows complete ignorance for what electromagnetic radiation IS.

Electromagnetic radiation is caused by changes in current. The more rapid or greater in magnitude the change is, the greater the problem.

Because a battery is merely a storage device for electricity, there should be no change in current in the battery. Only under load will a battery experience a change in current, and then the current will be primarily DC (no rapid change in current), unless the system is VERY poorly designed.

There may be a small amount of radiation emitted by the battery management system, but that would less than the average laptop computer.

All Electromagnetic radiation caused by electric vehicles is caused by switching sources. They would have much greater success looking at the EMI around the motor, motor controller, charger, or any of the computers used to control the systems.

All vehicles sold in the US must pass FCC regulated EMI radiation tests. They are not going to discover anything new.
