POTUS Meets Opel Ampera Electric Hybrid Car

President Obama takes break during NATO Meeting to inspect Chevy Volt's European couterpart

During a break in today's NATO meetings, President Obama indulged in two favorite activities: Checking out an electric car and plugging the comeback of General Motors.

"This is the future right here," Obama said after sitting at the wheel of an Opal Ampera, made by GM for sale in Europe.


Opel/Vauxhall Vivaro e-Concept delivery van utilizes plug-in hybrid drive concept similar to Ampera/Volt.

Vivaro e-Concept has electric range of 100 km and additional hybrid range of 300 km.

Opel Meriva electric car in MeRegioMobil livery.

GM subsidiary converts Meriva to all-electric car with 16kWh battery with range of 64 km (40mi), similar to Chevy Volt.

Opel/Vauxhall Ampera will have EV mode button.

Sibling to the Chevy Volt will have button that allows customers to select when they want to operate in EV-mode.
