Electric motorcycle makers didn’t have much of a presence at the recent Progressive International Motorcycle Show in New York, but the plug-in two-wheelers are expected to get exponentially more popular in the next few years.
U.S. electric motorcycle sales are expected to increase dramatically, at about a 24 percent compound annual growth rate, according to one analyst who covers the market.
For now, relatively few Americans ride electric motorcycles. About 1,310 units were sold last year, according to Dave Hurst, a clean technology analyst at Pike Research. But sales will grow to 32,000 motorcycles in 2017, Hurst says.
