”It looks like you guys are building some speed around here,” President Barack Obama said yesterday afternoon as he began a 15-minute tour of Ohio State University’s Center for Automotive Research.

He met and spoke with students working on a lightweight Formula racing car, an electric motorcycle, an entry into a national EcoCar competition, and the Buckeye Bullet 2, which holds a world record of 308 mph for an electric car, and OSU students are shooting for 400 mph with the Buckeye Bullet 4.

Among the students Obama spoke with was Jared Martin, 24, of Columbus, who’s working on the small, super light race car. The president asked how fast the car goes, to which Martin remarked: “well, the university won’t let us drive over 100 mph.”
