Here Comes the Next Generation Flight Trainer, And It's Electric
EADS and its various supplier partners collaborated to develop what can easily be called the next generation in general aviation flight trainer, the E-Fan, an all-electric, twin-engine airplane capable of not only providing basic pilot training but also able to engage in aerobatics, at least until the 250V battery depletes, which is at around 30 minutes time, the designers estimate.
The E-Fan hasn't yet been flown, but it has started initial taxi tests using, not its fan engines, but its electrically propelled center main gear, as is visible in video below. It is currently on display, along with EADS's E-Star hybrid-electric airplane, at the 2013 Paris Air Show.
