Saks Fifth Avenue Special Edition Cadillac ELR will be sold through 2013 Holiday Catalog for $89,500.

A special edition of the 2014 Cadillac ELR plug-in hybrid will be showcased in the 2013 Saks Fifth Avenue Holiday Catalog, featuring a new White Diamond paint color that’s exclusive to this special model. Saks Fifth Avenue will also feature a 2015 Cadillac Escalade trimmed in White Diamond for the department store’s “Frozen Escalade” window display at the flagship store in New York City.

Only 100 units of the 2014 Saks Fifth Avenue Special Edition Cadillac ELR will be sold at a price of $89,500 with destination, which is significantly higher than the standard 2014 Cadillac ELR’s $75,995 starting price. In addition to the exclusive exterior color, the Saks Fifth Avenue ELR includes the installation and licensing for a 240-volt home charging station, which Cadillac says is valued at $3000.

The 2014 Cadillac ELR is a plug-in hybrid with a similar powertrain to the Chevrolet Volt. This means that the ELR will be powered by a 207 horsepower electric motor, with a 1.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that serves as a generator for the battery pack once the battery pack’s initial electric range is depleted. We don’t yet know EPA estimates for range and fuel economy, but we expect the ELR to be rated slightly lower than the Chevrolet Volt’s 38 mile range and 37 mpg combined due to its 300-lb weight increase. The 2014 Cadillac ELR is also a coupe, whereas the Volt is a sedan, and the ELR will have a more upscale interior treatment.

The ELR will vault Cadillac into direct competition with other luxury electric vehicles such as Fisker Automotive's Karma and Tesla Motors' Model S.
