Audi Showcases New R18 e-tron quattro LMP1 Race
Audi's R18 e-tron quattro diesel hybrid race cars have won the last two years at the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race in France. It is aiming for a three-peat as winning driver Tom Kristensen drove the newest iteration of the LMP1 car around sections of the famed course that weaves through the town and across the French countryside.
The new car features an increase in engine capacity from 3.7 to four liters and a KERS system that can store up to 2 megajoules of energy via its flywheel system, which powers the electric motor driving the front axle for enhanced acceleration.
The following video highlights that drive. See also EV World's interview with Nicholas Perrinn and his aim to field his own LMP1 racer in 2015.
