ABC News sent EV World an advisory email today alerting us to their "Runaway Toyotas" investigation alleging that a whole series of company products from Avalons to Priuses could suddenly accelerate, endangering vehicle occupants. While Toyota contends, and as Bob Dal, Senior VP for Toyota Motor Sales, explains that the problem stems from loose or inappropriate driver side floor mats, drivers who experienced the problem disagree.
In its upcoming ABC Nightline report, the network quotes Elizabeth James, who asserts, ""I'm absolutely certain that in my situation, it was not the floor mats. I kept going faster and faster. And all of a sudden my foot was pressing on the brake super, super hard and I wasn't slowing down."
While ABC News claims Toyota has refused to talk to it, the carmaker did post the above video on its website and on YouTube, stressing that federal government safety engineers have tested the system six times and found that it could not duplicate the problem concerned motorists say they are experiencing.
Toyota advises that owners who are concerned about the potential of a stuck throttle should remove the driver side floor mat.
Sponsored by Volkswagen, TheFunTheory.com explores ways to get people to recycle bottles, use public trash containers, and in this video use the stairs instead of the escalator. These are cool ideas that we hope see wider use and even more creative applications. Vehlen dank, Volkswagen.
