Makers of Electric Bikes Warned They Must Comply With Rigorous UL Safety Standards

"CPSC letter to over 2,000 manufacturers and importers is a shot across the bow to a rapidly growing and underregulated industry, and it comes soon after a Consumer Reports investigation into the dangers posed by the lithium-ion batteries that power electric bikes.
"When the batteries that power these products are poorly made or are charged too long, they can explode and catch fire.
"Imported lithium-ion batteries/e-bikes that fail minimum industry standards may be seized at the ports..."
