Global EV sales are surging while gas-only car sales decline 31% from their 2017 peak. In 2024, nearly 11M EVs and 6.5M plug-in hybrids were sold worldwide, up from just 1.2M combined in 2017. China leads with ~60% of new cars electric, projected to hit 80% by 2030. Despite cost and infrastructure hurdles in markets like the U.S., the trend shows EVs rapidly overtaking fossil-fuel vehicles as the dominant choice.
