The U.S. may not need massive new electricity generation to meet future demand. A Grist analysis shows that smarter grid use, efficiency upgrades, and better load management could reduce the need for new power plants. While electrification is rising, much of the demand can be met by optimizing existing infrastructure and shifting usage patterns, especially during peak hours.
