Research from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology finds renewable "reFuels" from waste and biomass could supply about 20–30% of road transport energy. They cut CO2 and oil dependence but cost more today and require sustainable sourcing to avoid land-use and biodiversity impacts. While electrification expands, reFuels offer a practical bridge for existing vehicles and hard-to-electrify segments.
