Norway Just Ordered 20 'Flying' Electric Ferries In Historic Deal

10 Apr 2026  |  Abstracted from Electrek

Norway has ordered 20 Candela P‑12 electric hydrofoil ferries, the largest deployment of “flying” electric vessels to date. Operator Boreal AS will use them along the country’s fjords, where high‑speed routes have been hard to electrify. The P‑12 cuts energy use by about 80%, cruises at 25 knots, offers ~40‑nautical‑mile range, and recharges in about an hour using standard DC fast chargers. Deliveries begin in 2027.
