Expansive Review of Micromobility-Related Deaths Largely Avoidable By Modifiable Behavior

Fatal bicycle and e‑scooter crashes are linked to older age, male sex, no helmet use, and alcohol involvement. Head injuries are the leading cause of death. Across 26 studies, risk factors varied, but many deaths stemmed from modifiable behaviors and environmental conditions. The review calls for helmet laws, substance‑use prevention, better infrastructure, and improved injury surveillance.
