This Zinc Mine Needed A Truck No One Made, So They Made It Themselves

China's Xinjiang Zijin Zinc mine couldn't find an ultra-class electric haul truck to fit its needs, so it co-developed its own with manufacturer Longking. The resulting LK220E is a 140-ton battery-electric vehicle powered by a massive 770 kWh pack, recognized as the world's largest swappable battery. Swaps take just four minutes to maximize uptime. The mine has deployed 290 of these trucks, handling over 80% of its transport using a zero-carbon loop powered by local wind and solar energy.
