Study Shows Modern EV Batteries Can Outlast The Rest Of The Vehicle

14 Jul 2026  |  Abstracted from Yahoo News

Modern EV batteries rarely need replacement and often outlast the vehicle. A study of 30,000 EVs shows failure rates dropping from 8.5% (pre‑2016) to 0.3% (2022+). Better chemistry, cooling, and software slow degradation. Good charging habits matter: Level 2 users retain ~95% capacity after five years vs ~90% with heavy fast‑charging. Batteries often remain useful for stationary storage after vehicle retirement.
