An new study reveals that retrofitting Europe's existing diesel buses for electric operation (e-retrofitting) could fully electrify the fleet 15 years earlier by 2042 instead of 2057. This approach is highly feasible due to standardized bus models, cutting conversion times to just a few days. It would save 300 million tons of CO2 emissions, reduce environmental impacts by 20–50% compared to buying new EVs, and significantly lower operator costs.
