The next U.S. nuclear expansion could differ radically from the last. Instead of massive, utility-owned reactors supplying regional grids, smaller modular reactors and microreactors could provide dedicated, 24/7 power to data centers, mines, military bases, industries and remote communities. The shift would be toward factory-built systems, private investment, distributed generation and potentially less dependence on transmission infrastructure.
