Researchers Successfully Turn Abandoned Oil Well Into Giant Geothermal Battery
"...researchers from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign were able to make use of the deep subsurface structure, despite the fact that it doesn't actually produce geothermal energy...same properties that make a subsurface rock formation ideal for oil and gas extraction also make it ideal for geothermal storage.
